Thank you for sharing Donald and your beautiful flowers!
I'm not one for yard sales, but when the kids were little my mother-in-law used to find items for them that she would keep at her house so they'd have special toys there when they visited!
It’s my pleasure, Merril! Funny you mentioned that about your MIL. A woman who visited our sale had two bikes in the back of her pick-up truck. When I asked about them she said she’d purchased them for her grandchildren who were visiting next week. Thanks for stopping by!
Yes, the yard sales are very popular in the fall. I'm not sure why our homeowners association decided to have ours during the heat of the summer, but it was fun and a big success! Thanks for reading.
Hi Robbie, it's a good way to clear out the clutter, but it can be a lot of work. Usually we donate, but this was our first time participating. Thanks for reading.
After hosting a sale, I see where it can be more about the socializing than purchasing or selling, Deborah. Thanks for sharing your observation. I appreciate you stopping by!
Thank you, Jill, for your lovely flowers and adorable Donald. Glad to hear your yard sale was a success. I haven't been to a yard sale for a long time and was a shopper when I did.
Ok, my favorite journal so far is the one that said "to do, Get out of bed" :) That made me laugh. As far as yard sales go, I've done several and shopped at many more! We sold over $6000 worth of stuff when we left Burbank for Arizona in 99. My husband was a collector.;) That included an antique truck that had to be flat bedded away. We tried to sell what my daughter had extra from her apartment but were in not the best location in our park so we ended up donating most of it. I had enough for both of us when I moved here. I still shop thrift stores when I can get to one. Don't get out for yard sales anymore but love Craigslist for fantastic finds. I got the WW magazine yesterday and already read your story. Loved it so much.
LOL! I couldn't pass that journal up. Stay tuned for the giveaway. WOW! $6K! That's incredible. Thanks for sharing your experience with us. You guys were professionals! We have a "safe zone" at the gas station near our home, so we've sold on Craigslist also. I'm glad you peruse the site for bargains. Aw...thanks so much! I'm happy you enjoyed the story, Marlene. Take care! xo
Donald is such a friendly gal! Your WW story was perfect for summertime with the taffy sweet shop theme. Glad your garage sale was a success. In the past, we’ve had garage sales before moving, but didn’t this last time. I believe our new community has one once a year in a big parking lot. I need to keep that in mind. Thanks for sharing your pretty rescue plants!
She is, Sherida! Donald loves to air talk. :) Thank you. I'm happy you enjoyed my WW story. If you have some things you'd like to get rid of, I recommend you participate in the community sale. I sold everything for less than what we had on the tags. I loved seeing the eyes light up when they realized they could buy brand new golf shirts (with the tags still on) for $3! Thanks for stopping by! xo
Donald is so adorable 🙂 Don’t get me started on garage or yard sales ... lol. I’ve never been a seller although I contributed to a garage sale where the proceeds went to help a community member. I’ve definitely been to them. They’re a big deal back home. My mom was always having a yard sale, trying to get rid of her stuff. Now she gives her stuff to a neighbor who holds a huge yard sale every year. Occasionally people in my neighborhood have yard sales and cars line the streets. I avoid them now. I already have too much stuff 😉
She really is, Marie! She's so much fun. LOL! I enjoyed your anti-garage sale rant! :) We did create a traffic jam at one point. I do agree with you, I don't need anyone's stuff, but it's nice to get rid of things we'd long forgotten we had. Thanks for stopping by! I'll enter you into the drawing if you think you have room for a journal. :)
Hi Marian! I agree with you. The community wide sales seem to attract more shoppers. Plus, they paid for all of the advertising too. Thanks for sharing today. I’ve entered you into the drawing!
The last garage sale I held was a fundraiser for the Alzheimer’s Association. I received donated items, and lots of books, from our neighbors and other family members. I advertised the sale and people were waiting outside a half hour b4 the advertised sale time. It was a huge success, but what amazed me is that very few books were purchased. I ended up boxing them up and dropping them off at the local Half Price Books store. Here I thought they would be the draw for the garage sale.
Of course, that was many years ago, but I am aware that during the You-No-What that we've experienced the past few years, people have time on their hands so they are purging their households. A local independent bookstore sells both new and used books. He has so many "donated" used books, he has no space on the shelves and they are sitting in boxes in the aisles, which makes maneuvering through the store an Olympic challenge. ;-)
Wow, it sounds like he's got his hands full. I hope the books end up in good homes. I'm afraid the younger generation aren't as interested in reading as generations past. Thanks, Irene.
I always went to yard sales until I got on a walker .Now its a lot of trouble to get in and out of the car.I go to thrift stores. We used to supplement our social security doing yard sales with a group of seniors on Friday and Saturday but my husbands copd got worse so we had to quit.
I’m sorry to hear you and your husband are no longer able to participate in yard sales, Teresa. Going to thrift stores sounds like a good alternative for you.
Thank you for sharing today. I’ve entered your name into the drawing.
Congrats on the success of a garage sale. It’s a good way to meet the neighbors! I am too “lazy” to put on my own, but will pop into garage sales from time to time.
Thanks, Lynn! It is a great way to meet neighbors and others from surrounding communities. Everyone was so friendly. Well, you're smart to shop at others. I don't know who decided on having the sale during the hottest days of the summer. Thanks for stopping by!
Books are a great item to search for, Cindy. I had planned on putting some book out to sell, but my neighbor mentioned books weren’t big sellers at their previous sales.
Thanks for sharing. I’ve entered you into the drawing.

My mother did the same thing!
Another lucky winner - yard sales are the best, but I haven't been to one in a while. I'm sure there will be many around here during the fall!

HI Jill, we don't have garage sales here, but it sounds like a good idea from what I understand they are.
Hi Robbie, it's a good way to clear out the clutter, but it can be a lot of work. Usually we donate, but this was our first time participating. Thanks for reading.
I adore yard sales, and have stopped and shopped most of my adult life! thanks for the chance to win, Jill! Hope you are keeping cool!
Good for you, Debbie! I'm sure you've found some great bargains. Thanks for stopping by! I've entered you into the drawing!
a shopper
I believe being a shopper is much easier. Thanks for stopping by.
I use to love to have yard sales & go to them. Often I was more to catch up with friends & neighbors & less about selling or buying.
After hosting a sale, I see where it can be more about the socializing than purchasing or selling, Deborah. Thanks for sharing your observation. I appreciate you stopping by!

I thought so! :)
I had no idea purslane had flowers! I thought it was just a weed! I've been yanking it out of the cracks between our brick garden walk.
Ack! Oh no! You must be yanking them after they’ve gone back to sleep, Betsy. LOL!
Thanks for visiting. I’ve entered you into the drawing.
Clearly I need to get up and go outside earlier.
I think so, Betsy! Let me know what you see. :)
Good morning, Jill! Yes, our community of just 65 homes years ago had a community sale, better than one for just one household.
Hi Marian! I agree with you. The community wide sales seem to attract more shoppers. Plus, they paid for all of the advertising too. Thanks for sharing today. I’ve entered you into the drawing!

Interesting, Irene. I had planned on selling a lot of books I’ve accumulated over the years, but our neighbor said they don’t really sell well.
I’m happy your fundraiser was a big success despite the books. Thanks for sharing! I’ve entered your name into the drawing.

It's been a while, but I used to go garage selling all the time (mostly looking for books!), and I have done several of my own as well.
